Inclement weather is no barrier to an Easter Egg Hunt when one can be held indoors and without children having to move from their seats!

Designed to complement the article "Children’s Easter Party Games", the Giant Indoor Easter Egg Hunt provides a great way to hold a hunt whatever the weather. Now, whenever a traditional Easter egg hunt, where children get to search for eggs in flowerpots and under bushes in the garden, presents a challenge or becomes impossible, there is a solution.

The Giant Indoor Easter Egg Hunt is the pièce de résistance for an indoor Easter party and provides a way that not only allows children to hunt for eggs while remaining seated indoors, but one that will also create lots of excitement as children find 'hidden' eggs in the centre of the room!

A little preparation is needed, but the reward will far outweigh the effort necessary!

Preparing for the Giant Indoor Easter Egg Hunt

Preparations involve the labeling 4” x 4” cards with a combination of letters and numbers, i.e., A1, A2, A3 and so on up to A9. Each letter of the alphabet should be represented and each number from 1 - 9 should appear with each letter making a total of 234 cards. Of course this number may be adjusted depending on the number of children attending the party. Roughly, there should be around 15 – 20 pieces of card per child playing the game.

All letter number combinations must be recorded on a game sheet which also must be prepared in advance to show the winning and losing combinations. All those combinations chosen to be winning squares, must have the prize recorded alongside, so that the game leader can see in an instant exactly which squares are winners and what prize each winning square hides. Hidden prizes should include Easter eggs of varying sizes and types as well egg related gifts such as egg poems, hard boiled eggs, egg craft kits and egg candles to ensure there are lots of hidden gifts to find.

Rules for the Giant Indoor Easter Egg Hunt

When it is time to play, the game the cards should be laid out in logical order to make a huge ‘mat’ on the floor and children should be invited to sit in a circle around the display. Play begins with the youngest child being invited to call out one letter and number combination of their choice. An assistant should then remove the child’s chosen card from the 'mat' while the game leader prepares to announce whether the letter/number combination means the child has ‘found’ a prize or not.

Hooters and other instruments can be used to signal a ‘hit’ or a ‘miss’, and the leader can have fun with these in order to build the excitement for the children.

Easter Party Prizes

When the Giant Easter Egg Hunt is combined with the Easter activities described in the article ‘Children’s Easter Party Games’, a full programme of activities is ready to use. All that remains is for the game organizer to ensure that enough Easter eggs and gifts are in hand, so that winners of individual games as well as winners of the giant Easter egg hunt have plenty of prizes to win on the day!
